Plymouth Drake Royal Marine Cadets At The Gibraltar Cup Competition

Having been recognised as the most effective and efficient detachment out of all in the South West’s Alpha Company, the Plymouth Drake Royal Marine Cadet detachment have spent the past few months training for this year’s Gibraltar Cup competition. Carried out over a three day period, this year’s competition took place last weekend between March 4th and March 6th at the Commando Training Centre Royal Marines (CTCRM) in Lympstone, Devon.

The Nijmegen Marches The "Vierdaagse" (Dutch for "Four day's") is an annual walk that has taken place since 1909, being based at Nijmegen since 1916. Depending on age walkers have to walk 30, 40 or 50 kilometres each day for four days. Originally a military event with very few civilians, it now is a mainly civilian event with numbers rising in recent years, with over 40,000 taking part - including about 5,000 Military participants. It is now the world's largest walking event.

Lowa’s import partner in the UK (Task Force Distribution Ltd) were recently approached by a unit who were looking for sponsorship with boots as part of a military skills competition. We wanted feedback from the participants and also to evaluate how these mid cut split and suede leather futuristic looking boots would fare in the competition.

The Ten Tors Challenge

The Ten Tors Challenge Every year 2,400 young people from across South-West England take part in the Ten Tors challenge. This trek which takes place in early May sees participants aged between 14-19 compete to finish a route of up to 55 miles in length across Dartmoor in Devon.

At the turn of the year Task Force were approached by cadets from the Truro Detachmanet (Alpha Coy) of the Royal Marine Cadets (RMC) who wanted help with potential boot sponsorship as they were struggling with boot uniformity, fitting, sizing and quality. With assistance from Lowa, W. L. Gore & Associates and ourselves we were able to send 14 pairs to the delight of the staff and cadets themselves. We even heard that one cadet slept in his brown Lowa Mountain GORE-TEX® boots.
